Copilot is entering a new phase. What began as a productivity assistant is becoming a broader platform for getting work done, building solutions and automating business processes. With Home, Code and Autopilot brought together in one experience, Microsoft is moving AI from isolated tasks into the daily flow of business.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For MSPs, this is more than a product update. It\u2019s a chance to lead customers through the next stage of AI adoption by helping them redesign workflows, build and govern solutions, manage consumption and turn AI investment into measurable outcomes. The partners that develop these capabilities now can become the trusted advisors customers need as AI takes on a larger role across their organizations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s new in Copilot?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Microsoft is bringing three capabilities together in <\/span>one Copilot experience: Home, Code and Autopilot<\/span><\/a>. Each supports a different mode of work, but together they create a more complete platform for everyday productivity, solution development and autonomous execution.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Home: A starting point for getting work done<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Home brings Chat and Cowork together with the full power of Office. Chat supports quick questions, lookups and drafting. Cowork is designed for work that can be delegated end to end, such as preparing a customer briefing, developing a launch kit or assembling an RFP response. With Word, Excel and PowerPoint integrated into the experience, users can create and update real, editable work without repeatedly moving between tools or rebuilding context.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Code: Solution-building for more knowledge workers<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Code extends solution-building beyond traditional development teams. Powered by the same underlying technology as GitHub Copilot, it\u2019s intended to help more employees create applications and automations using natural language while operating within the organization\u2019s environment. This can shorten the distance between a business problem and a working solution, provided the right security, data and governance controls are in place.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Autopilot: Persistent, proactive AI<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Autopilot, previously called Scout, introduces a persistent, proactive and personal agent hosted in the cloud. Instead of waiting for a user to initiate every interaction, it can continue working when the user is away. This opens the door to more continuous forms of AI-assisted work, where progress does not stop when a meeting ends or a laptop closes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

FinOps for AI: Manage spend and maximize value<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

As advanced and long-running agentic work introduces usage-based costs, <\/span>FinOps for AI<\/span><\/a> gives organizations greater visibility and control. Customers can monitor consumption, set spending guardrails and connect Copilot and agent investments to measurable business outcomes. User subscriptions continue to support everyday Copilot use, while Copilot Credits provide a common unit for eligible usage-based services.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Copilot no longer requires a Microsoft 365 base subscription<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Beginning December 1, 2026, <\/span>new offers will be available across all channels<\/span><\/a> with new product and SKU IDs at the same price as the current offers. This changes how customers purchase Copilot, not its underlying capabilities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To support the transition, the current offers that require a qualifying Microsoft 365 base subscription include \u201c(add-on)\u201d in their names beginning October 16, 2026. These add-on offers reach end of sale on December 1, 2026, and the new offers become the purchasing path for new Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot Business subscriptions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For existing customers, end of sale is not end of life. No action or migration is required. Existing subscriptions can continue to renew and adjust seat quantities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What does this change for MSPs?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The biggest change is that the MSP opportunity expands from deployment to ongoing AI operations. Customers will need more than access to Copilot. They will need a trusted partner who can help them decide where to apply it, prepare their environment, manage risk, control spending and demonstrate business value.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This purchasing change also removes an important point of friction in the sales conversation. MSPs will have more flexibility to position Copilot based on the customer\u2019s AI needs rather than treating a qualifying Microsoft 365 base subscription as the entry point.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
